"New Look" salted fish from Legaspi City

Salted fish, tomato and fried rice is the best breakfast combination prompting me to forget all about dieting. My dear fiance, Carlos, brought me this original Pinoy breakfast last Saturday. It was sweet of him... I really am one lucky wife-to-be. The dried fish which they call "new look" came directly from Bicol, our hometown. New look is they type of fish that can be eaten from head to tail including the fish bone. Yummy! Nothing goes to waste!

New Look Salted Fish cost around P150 in Legaspi, Albay. If you have relatives you might try to order from them.

Mexicali at Robinsons Place

Girls Night Out! We were past due for some bonding time. We had a fun dinner with their famous Tacos Hard Shell P75 each, Super Fire Hot Wings with special mexicali sauce P155 and Grilled Chicken Fajitas P235. Mexicali proved to be a good place for us to get together as the place was quiet with great service. We stayed until their closing time with our total bill amounting to P615.

Tong Yang Hot Pot at Malate

We went to Tong Yang at Pan Pacific to have dinner as it has been a long time since we last visited Tong Yang. They offer the best catch of the day, eat-all-you-can for P450 per person. Diners can cook their food either by grilling it or by cooking it in the hot pot. I choose thinly cut marinated beef strips, chicken wings, lamb chops -even amusing us by stashing a handful of hotdogs and meat loaf, stoking it over the smokeless grill with volcanic rocks as coal. Joni says that these rocks particularly conserve energy and heat while cooking the food in a matter of minutes.

As for the hot pot, I put in some fresh seafood (clams, fishballs, crab, squid) along with other ingredients such as abalone, beef tripe and mushroom. The trick is to cook first the ingredients that take a lot of time to get tender like beef or chicken. Then you put in the vegetables. We all know that you shouldn't overcook vegetables so as not to lose their nutritional value.

The clincher in every hot pot meal is the special sauces. I tried dipping a fishball into the sate sauce (or the Chinese's version of curry) and it was the best sauce that went well with the hot pot extenders. It's like appreciating fishballs in a different way because of that unique sauce. The grilled foodstuff also tasted incredibly delightful as they had been marinated for a considerable amount of time.

Its just a nice experience to dine at Tong Yang.

Mr. Choi Kitchen at Waltermart Makati

My Fiance surprised me today, she went to our office as it's our "monthsary". We went to Mr. Choi for a lunch. Mr. Choi's normally packed with people during lunch. This is probably because they claim that they do not use MSG and that their food is not oily. We ordered Yang Chow Fried Rice P145, which was a littly dry, yet a lot of people seems to be ordering the Yang Chow fried rice. Fried Squid with Salt and Pepper P168, Sauteed Fresh Asparagus with Garlic P160 and Bottomless Ice tea for P60. I like the fried squid, it taste right and crunchy. Our Total bill was P533. My fiance footed the bill... i'm a lucky guy today.

Namsan Korean B-B-Q Restaurant

We went to Waltermart Makati to watch Pride and Prejudice. I love waltermart as it's not crowded like other Malls and the facilities are all brand new. After watching the movie, we had dinner at Namsan. We ordered Dubu Tugim (deep fried Beancurd) P70, Chesu Bokum (Assorted Vegetables with Meat) P79, Sukiyaki Beef with Vegetables, Mushroom, Vermicelli and Raw Egg P115. Korean Tea P35. Total is P334. Zong Palate at the Fort

We went to the Fort to attend a wedding exhibit. It was around 11:30 when we reached the Fort, so we decided to grab some lunch at the Fort Square Plaza. We picked Zong Palate as our friend Elaine has tried the place and she likes the food. The interior is nice and clean. We ordered Ha Kao P108, Crispy Noodles with Mix Seafood P228, General Tsos Chicken P198, Steam Brocolli with Garlic P238, for drinks we had Bottomless Ice Tea P65, Lychee Shake P60, Green Tea P60. We also requested for house tea. Our total bill is 957. The food was typical chinese and nothing spectacular.

Golden Sala Restaurant

The Sala proprietor probably knows how to infuse style in everything from the old garage shell painted and upholstered to become one of the most chic restaurants in town; to the variety of crisp soft breads served with every turn of the meal. Ultimately, the discriminating tastes are reflected in Sala's guests from dignitaries, celebrities, socialites, to the regular bloke with extraordinarly taste buds.

All of Sala's dishes are fresh and authentic. For starter they already provided a complimentary bread with butter, so we did not order other starter. For our drinks we ordered Mango passion, yellow mango fresh orange juice and passion fruit for P150, Orange zinger carrot orange and ginger for P150, we do not recommend the Orange zinger as it taste bitter. Our main course is their best selling Tomato and Herb braised Lamb shank with roasted garlic mashed potatoes for P740. Although I normally avoid eating lambs as I do not like the taste but I love the Lamb from Sala's. Their serving is good for 2 person so we just shared the meal. Our total is P1144.
